Delhi Police files nearly 100 cases after people defy firecrackers ban on Diwali
The Delhi Police has lodged 97 cases in connection with the bursting of firecrackers during the Diwali celebrations on Sunday in the national capital.
The Delhi Police on Monday registered 97 cases in connection with the bursting of firecrackers during the Diwali celebrations in the national capital.
Notably, the Supreme Court has banned the bursting of polluting firecrackers across the country. Despite this, Delhi-NCR witnessed the bursting of firecrackers on Diwali.
Here are the number of cases and the respective localities in which they were registered.
- 17 cases have been filed in North-East Delhi.
- 2 cases were registered in Southern Delhi.
- 8 cases were lodged in the North district of Delhi.
- 29 cases were filed in East Delhi.
- 13 cases were registered in the Shahdara area of the national capital.
- 28 cases were registered in the south-west area of Delhi.
Firecrackers were burst in the national capital on Diwali due to which the Air Quality Index (AQI) shot up to alarming levels on Monday.
The AQI levels in some areas in the city breached 900 on Monday morning. In the India Gate area in the heart of the city, the AQI level stood at 999.
According to aqicn.org, in the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium area, the AQI stood at 999 in the morning and later came down to 553. The AQI was recorded at 970 in the Pusa Road area, and in the Anand Vihar area, it stood at 849.
