Bihar Politics LIVE Updates: Nitish Kumar makes the switch again. It's his fourth such move in the past decade and the second this term.
Kumar dumped the Mahagathbandhan he had joined less than 18 months ago and deal a body blow to the opposition bloc INDIA.
The party's political adviser and spokesperson K C Tyagi told reporters in Delhi that the grand alliance government in Bihar is on the verge of collapse, and accused a section of the Congress leadership of repeatedly "insulting" Kumar.
"The INDIA bloc is on the verge of collapse. The alliance of INDIA bloc parties is almost over in Punjab, West Bengal and Bihar," he said.
Here are the top points on the recent developments in Bihar politics:
- All major political parties of the state-- the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-- continuing parleys with their legislators all along Saturday.
- Till late evening, hectic parleys went on in JD(U) -- which blamed the Congress for insulting Kumar, in the BJP -- on how to receive Kumar once again, in RJD, the largest party in the legislative assembly -- on how not to yield any ground in any situation that arises in Bihar on Sunday.
- The JD (U), which has called a meeting of its legislators on Sunday, held an informal meeting with legislators over tea on Saturday evening.
- People familiar with the consultations between the JD(U) and the BJP said the latter proposed the names of Renu Devi and Tarkishore Prasad for the posts of deputy chief minister, but it is likely that Prasad may be replaced by Sushil Modi who is preferred by Kumar.
- BJP’s other alliance partners, the LJP (Ram Vilas) amd HAM-S, however, seem jittery over the developments.

INDIA bloc parties mounted a scathing attack on Bihar’s ex-Chief minister Nitish Kumar, after he tendered his resignation on Sunday, with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge claiming that he already knew this was coming and underlining that political turncoats like Kumar keep coming and going.
“This information was already given to us by Lalu Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav that he would leave. Today that came true. If he wanted to stay, he would have stayed but he wants to go. That’s why we already knew this, but to keep the India Alliance intact, if we say something wrong, a wrong message will be sent….In this country there are a lot of ‘aaya ram gaya ram’ type people,” Kharge said.
Kumar tendered his resignation from the post of Bihar CM to Governor Rajendra Arlekar and informed the later about his decision to sever ties with the ‘Mahagathbandhan’, citing bad relations with the Rashtriya Janata Dal.. This is his fifth turnaround since November 2005.
Congress General Secretary in-charge Communications, Jairam Ramesh too echoed Kharge’s statement and said that it was ‘not-surprising’ at all while jibing that Kumar had changed parties so many times, that he could give a touch challenge to chameleons.

In his first reaction to the political turmoil after handing over his resignation letter to the Governor, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the state of affairs in the 'Mahagathbandhan' (grand alliance) formed one and a half years ago was 'not good'.
"I resigned as chief minister and requested the Governor to dissolve the government. The situation came to this pass as the state of affairs within the ruling alliance in Bihar wasn't good. I sought the advice and opinions of everyone before coming to this decision. I took all opinions and suggestions to heart. The government is being dissolved today," Nitish told reporters on Sunday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party here on Sunday termed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's resignation claiming "things were not working well" for him in the 'Mahagathbandhan' as expected as the JD (U) president and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad were poles apart.
"Political turn of events in Bihar was expected ...What I wonder is how a seasoned and honest politician like Nitish Kumar could continue so long with them (Mahagathbandhan)," Jharkhand BJP chief and former state chief minister Babulal Marandi told PTI.
Taking a dig at RJD supremo Prasad, Marandi said "nature and signature of a person doesn't change" and Nitish Kumar could realise this after such a long time.
