A PROBE into the gruesome murder of a 26-year-old software engineer Vandana Dwivedi has revealed that the accused Rishabh Nigam, who was her long-time boyfriend, was stabbed three years ago in Jaipur. Investigating officials said that he had been nursing grudges against her suspecting that he had been attacked at her behest.
The Hinjewadi police station under Pimpri Chinchwad police which is investigating the case has started putting together the sequence of events leading up to the night of January 27 when Dwivedi was shot multiple times by Nigam in room 306 of Hotel Oyo Townhouse located off Marunji Road.
Dwivedi, an Infosys employee in Pune, was in a relationship with Nigam for 10 years, officials said. She was found dead lying in a pool of blood in the room around 9 am on Sunday, January 28. Hinjewadi police had reached the hotel after receiving information from Navi Mumbai police and had opened the room using a spare key. Around the same time, Navi Mumbai police nabbed Nigam (30), who hails from Lucknow. He was arrested by Pimpri Chinchwad police.
On Monday, Nigam was produced before a magistrate court and remanded to police custody till February 3. On Tuesday, Twivedi’s body was handed over to her family, officials said. Prima facie investigation after the autopsy suggests that Dwivedi was shot four to five times — in the head, chest and abdomen.
“During the probe, we came to know that around three years ago, Nigam had been stabbed by some suspects in Jaipur. He began to doubt Dwivedi, suspecting he was attacked at her behest. Since then, he has been nursing a grudge against her. Nigam felt she was avoiding him, and that she was seeing someone else,” said an investigating officer.
LAKSHY DREAM FOUNDATION GLOBAL NEWS has earlier reported that a timely tip off from a confidential informant and swift mobilisation of investigation teams by Navi Mumbai and Pimpri Chinchwad police had led to Nigam’s arrest and discovery of the heinous murder.
Nigam has passed higher secondary school, and works as a property dealer in Lucknow. The victim, who studied engineering in Lucknow, had been working with Infosys in Pune for around two years. She was putting up at a paying guest accomodation in Hinjewadi.
